Attorney General Eric Holder will announce that he is stepping down. Holder is expected to formally announce his resignation alongside President Obama at 4:30p ET today at the White House.

He is expected to remain in his post until a replacement is named and confirmed by the Senate.

Wendell Goler reported the latest from the White House this morning, saying that Holder had discussed his plans with the president over Labor Day weekend.

There has been speculation since the beginning of Obama's second term that Holder would leave the administration.

Holder, the first African-American attorney general, has served since Obama was elected.

Goler noted that Holder has expressed interest in working on improving relations between police and minority communities after he leaves the DOJ.
