Welfare for Weed: EBT Recipients Can Use Benefit Cards To Buy Pot
The federal government is now admitting that welfare recipients can buy marijuana with their benefit money in states where marijuana shops are legal.
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Sylvia Burwell wrote, "HHS has no authority to prescribe policies and practices for the states to implement in order to prohibit the use of TANF benefit cards at marijuana stores."
Rep. Libby Szabo (R-CO) joined Tucker Carlson on Fox and Friends Weekend today and explained that the state's hands are tied because they cannot regulate a federal program.
"We all know that those EBT cards and the federal funds and taxpayer dollars that go to that are to be used for food that provides nutritional value," Szabo said.
She added that this abuse of aid money is appalling and insults both taxpayers and the very concept of welfare.
Szabo concluded that EBT cards are for people to feed themselves and their families, "not to use for alcohol, weed and all these other types of entertainment."
"That's just not appropriate."
