A 911 operator received what she probably thought was a tiresome prank call about a chicken crossing the road. Except, the man who called was completely serious.

"This is actually not a prank call, but there is a chicken trying to cross the road in Linnton," he said, adding that the "one chicken" was causing traffic problems by trying to go into the middle of the road.

The Portland, Oregon, police department had some fun with this, writing on its website, "Police Respond to Chicken Crossing the Road in Linnton - Officers Unable to Determine Chicken's Intent."

They said the call was made to a non-emergency line. Police actually responded to the scene, but the chicken could not be located.

"While 'chicken crossing road' jokes have been told for more than a century, animals in the roadway creating traffic hazards are no laughing matter," police said.
