A woman who was told she would never walk again is now participating in races, thanks to the help of a fitness trainer.

Gym owner Kellye Williams said she saw Tichelle Florence in the grocery store and had an “overwhelming feeling” to offer Florence her services, even though she was unaware of Florence’s condition.

Florence was diagnosed with Friedreich’s ataxia, a neuromuscular disease, and was told she would never walk again. She had been in a wheelchair for six years before she began training with Williams. After just a month and a half of training, Florence took her first steps. Less than a month after that, she participated in a race.

Florence is currently preparing for the Fuzz Run on Sept. 13.
