Norwegian Cruise Line has refused to refund a New York couple that had to cancel their family vacation after their 5-year-old son was diagnosed with cancer.

Nicolas Colucci was diagnosed with cancer and had to undergo emergency surgery just weeks before the family was set to go on a June 1 cruise. Surgeons removed 60 percent of his liver, his gallbladder, part of his diaphragm and lymph nodes.

Today on “Fox and Friends,” Nicholas’ mom Tara said that Norwegian Cruise Line told them they should have gotten traveler’s insurance and would not refund them for the trip. His dad Philip said he was “astounded” by the treatment, especially since they were going on a family-friendly Nickelodeon cruise.

Norwegian Cruise Line said in a statement, “Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with the Colucci family and we wish Nicolas a speedy recovery…  After reviewing the request of the Colucci family, we spoke with the family and explained that while we could not make an exception to our policy, we would assist them when they were ready to re-book their cruise.”

But Tara said that’s not the case.

“That’s not exactly what they said. What they said was they hoped we would choose Norwegian for future cruising and after we booked a cruise, depending on the dates and location we chose, they would try and do something for us, but it wasn’t guaranteed,” Tara said, adding that they did not even extend any sympathy.

Luckily, the CEO of a different cruise line has stepped up to the plate and is offering the Colucci family a free cruise. The CEO does not want the name of the cruise line revealed at this time.
