'What Are They Hiding?': Obama on Malaysia Airlines Plane Crash Investigation
President Obama addressed the situation in Ukraine and Israel at the White House today.
Regarding the Malaysia Airlines plane crash that killed all 298 people on board, the president said immediate focus is on recovering their bodies and investigating what happened.
Calling for truth and accountability, President Obama said the United States and other countries have sent teams to collect evidence. Though the Ukrainian president has declared the crash site a de-militarized zone, Russian-backed separatists are blocking access to the wreckage and removing evidence.
“What exactly are they trying to hide?” the president questioned.
He called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to use its influence over the separatists.
“[Putin] has direct responsibility to compel them to cooperate with the investigation. That is the least that they can do,” President Obama said, adding that he still stands by resolving the crisis in Ukraine through diplomacy.
Speaking on the Israeli ground invasion in Gaza, he noted that Secretary of State John Kerry is traveling to the Middle East. The president said he has instructed Sec. Kerry to push for an immediate ceasefire in an attempt to stop Palestinian and Israeli deaths.
