Obama on Malaysia Airlines Crash: 'Nat'l Security Team in Contact With Ukrainian Gov't'
President Obama briefly remarked on the downed Malaysia Airlines plane. The plane was reportedly shot down over Eastern Ukraine near the Russian border. Everyone aboard was killed, according to Anton Gerashenko, an adviser to Ukraine's Interior Minister.
Ahead of a speech in Delaware, President Obama said, “It looks like it may be a terrible tragedy. Right now we’re working to determine whether there were American citizens on board. That is our first priority.”
The president said he directed his national security team to stay in contact with the Ukrainian government.
He continued, “The United States will offer any assistance to determine what happened and why. And as a country, our thoughts and prayers are with all the families and passengers wherever they call home.”
