Would you ever take your kids on something known as the “White Killer”? Chances are most parents would not, but one dad is causing controversy for his decision.

Patrick Sweeney took his nine-year-old son and 11-year-old daughter on a dangerous climb in the Alps, to an area that is also nicknamed the “corridor of death.”

When an avalanche nearly swept the family down the mountain, Sweeney managed to save his kids by anchoring his ax to the side of the mountain. The three were trying to make a world record climb, but were forced to give up after the avalanche scare.

If they had made it to the top, the boy would’ve been the youngest climber to reach the peak.
