State Department Deputy Spokeswoman Marie Harf was on “Shepard Smith Reporting” to discuss the situation in Iraq.

Harf said that Secretary of State John Kerry is on the ground there, where he is talking to leaders in Iraq about establishing an inclusive government.

“We know the security situation is very fluid,” she said, when Smith asked her about reports that terrorists have already killed people in Baghdad.

Harf said that U.S. military advisers are helping the Iraqi army get back on its feet. She said the U.S. has provided Iraq with additional intelligence and surveillance.

“We know the threat from ISIL is real,” she said. “We are confident, though, that if we work with the Iraqi army and if their leaders step up that we can push back against this threat.”
