A Georgia man quickly became a hero after he spotted a baby crawling toward a highway east of Atlanta. Bryant Collins, an ex-con who is now an auto repairman, happened to be on the job along the highway and raced over to pick up the baby.

Since it took two hours for police to arrive after he called 911, Collins played gospel music on his phone to soothe the 15-month-old girl. He said the baby had only feet to go before she went right into the middle of the highway.

The father of the girl was arrested and the mother may also face charges. Timothy Pickens, 37, and his wife had reportedly left her at home with their other children, ages 13, 9 and 5.

She had crawled through woods and gone about 300 yards from her home, but luckily was not hurt.

Collins, meanwhile, said when he went to federal prison for 10 years on a cocaine conviction, he knew he had to turn his life around.

"It made me feel good that I could be in society and I could do good," he said. "Just as you can do bad, you can do good."

Collins said he's been out of jail and clean for the past five years.
