'I Should Be an American & Only an American': Cruz Renounces Canadian Citizenship
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) was on “The Kelly File” tonight, where he told Megyn about his decision to renounce his Canadian citizenship.
Cruz, who was born in Canada, was told as a child that he did not have Canadian citizenship because he had to affirmatively claim it. In the last year, he discovered that he had dual citizenship.
“It struck me that serving as a U.S. senator, representing 26 million Texans, that I should be an American and only an American,” he said.
Cruz also discussed the Bergdahl swap, stressing that the exchange gives terrorists the incentive to go capture more soldiers.
He also discussed the influx of unaccompanied minor immigrants who are illegally crossing the border.
“This is a humanitarian crisis, and it is the direct result of President Obama’s lawlessness and unwillingness to enforce the law,” he said.
