‘Today’s College Is Yesterday’s High School’: Jobs Outlook Daunting for New Grads
The jobs outlook is daunting for recent college graduates, with a 10.6 percent unemployment rate among 20 to 24 year olds across the nation.
By comparison, the national jobless rate is 6.3 percent.
Korn Ferry International CEO Gary Burnison was on “Sunday Morning Futures” to offer advice to new graduates.
“Today’s college is yesterday’s high school, right? And so you go from a cap and gown to, ‘Can I take your order?’” he told Maria Bartiromo.
Burnison said young people should pick an industry or companies that they want to work for instead of just sending out resumes. He also said they should find people within the companies and industries that they like and network with them.
“Network is a contact sport,” he said.
So, what industries are hiring, anyway? Burnison said technology, health care, life sciences and energy.
