Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) and Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-Calif.) were on “Fox News Sunday” to discuss the newly formed House select committee on Benghazi.

House Speaker John Boehner has appointed seven Republicans to the committee, leaving five spots for Democrats. Despite having more Republicans on the committee, Gowdy said the committee will keep politics out of its mission.

Gowdy, who will chair the committee, said that the facts aren’t Republican or Democrat.

“I want this to transcend politics,” he said.

Becerra said that Democrats have a responsibility to participate in the select committee and will do so as long as it’s “a fair and balanced process.”
