Cruz: Dems Stonewalling Benghazi Investigation
Just announced today, Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) has been chosen to be the chairman of a House select committee that will investigate the September 11, 2012 Benghazi terror attack.
Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz praised the decision today on Your World. He said the recently released White House emails that blamed protests on an anti-Islamic video show that the administration’s driving motivation was to protect the political interests of the president, rather than telling the truth.
Democrats, on the other hand, charge that Republicans in Congress are being political. Cruz responded, “I think is it unfortunate to see the Democrat Party circling the wagons around President Obama and Hillary Clinton, and treating the death by terrorist attack of four Americans as nothing but a political inconvenience.”
Questions that remain include why the State Department refused additional security to the U.S. consulate in Benghazi after U.S. ambassador Chris Stevens requested it. Cruz also wants to know why military assets were not in place to protect Americans on the anniversary of 9/11, and why reinforcement wasn’t sent in to help them during the attack.
The senator said it’s critical to find out why in the year and a half since the attack, no one been apprehended. Instead of bringing terrorists to justice, Cruz said the Obama administration has been stonewalling.
