Toronto Mayor Rob Ford Goes to Rehab After New Recordings Surface
Toronto’s troubled mayor, Rob Ford, is heading to rehab for alcohol abuse treatment. Last November, Ford admitted to smoking crack in a drunken stupor after video evidence surfaced.
Over the past few months, the mayor’s antics have been caught on camera and he has reportedly fallen off the wagon several times. Even then, Ford maintained that he would seek re-election.
Fox News’ John Roberts reported that new recordings allegedly show Ford smoking crack cocaine five days ago in his sister’s basement. Another recording shows Ford drunk and at a bar, making vulgar comments about a mayoral opponent – hear the audio in the clip above.
In a statement, Ford wrote: “I have a problem with alcohol, and the choices I have made while under the influence … I have tried to deal with these issues by myself over the past year. I know that I need professional help and I am now 100% committed to getting myself right.”
Ford’s attorney told Roberts that the mayor is resolute that after getting treatment, he’ll be back in the race. Ford said in the recordings that if he loses the election in October, he wants to move to California.
