Authorities: Object That Washed Ashore Not Part of Missing Flight 370
The Australian Transportation Board says an object that washed ashore is not part of missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370.
This morning, Australian officials had said a piece of sheet metal washed upon the beach about 180 miles south of Perth, calling it an “object of interest.” They examined it for links to the missing plane, but determined it was unrelated.
The jetliner was carrying 239 people when it vanished 47 days ago. Now, investigators are back at square one.
Bad weather and rough seas have grounded the air search for two days in a row. An underwater drone search turned up no leads after 11 missions and has canvassed about 90 percent of the most promising areas.
