Teacher and author David McCullough was on “The Kelly File” to discuss his new book, “You Are Not Special and Other Encouragements.”

McCullough gave a commencement speech back in 2012 at Wellesley High School in Massachusetts, where he told students, “Do not get the idea you’re anything special. Because you are not.”

McCullough told Megyn Kelly tonight that through his book, he is trying to relieve young people of the burden of “specialness.”

“If a kid gets the idea that he’s special or matters more than somebody else, every move becomes laden with significance, and they become phobic about failure.”

He urges people to invest themselves in the moment instead.
