Skydiver Plunges to Death in NJ Family's Backyard
The FAA is investigating an incident yesterday in southern New Jersey in which a skydiver plunged to his death in a family's backyard. The fatal mishap occurred in Sewell, located about 20 miles from Philadelphia
Officials say the man who died was an experienced skydiver from Brooklyn, having done hundreds of jumps.
One witness said the man appeared to be unconscious as he was coming down and was just spinning.
According to Fox 29 in Philadelphia, the victim was identified as Arkady Shenker, 49. He was said to be wearing a specialized parachute called a "wing suit," which allows the skydiver to go forward while descending.
Authorities are investigating whether the parachute malfunctioned.
