Judge Andrew Napolitano blasted the federal response to the Nevada ranch battle between Cliven Bundy and the Bureau of Land Management.

Napolitano said that the government used excessive force to resolve a dispute that could have been “resolved by filing some pieces of paper in a courthouse.”

Napolitano said the government should have filed a lien on the property instead of showing up with an army, pointing M16s at the Bundy family, friends, news entities, and protesters. He called it a “gross, unacceptable, unlawful accumulation of fire power.”

“It is the federal government thinking it is immune from the laws of the land, the laws of civility that govern the rest of us, even basic constitutional principles,” he said. “Remember: the government is the servant, not the master.”
