WATCH: Obama Announces Expansion of Russia Sanctions After Crimea Vote
President Obama delivered a statement on Monday after Crimea voted to secede from Ukraine. He announced an expansion to the sanctions against Russian officials.
“We’re making it clear that there are consequences for their actions.”
The president called the referendum a violation of Ukraine’s constitution and international law. He said it will not be recognized by the international community.
If Russia continues to interfere in Ukraine, President Obama said the administration is ready to impose further sanctions.
Vice President Joe Biden will meet with NATO allies in Europe this week and the president will be traveling to Europe next week.
He said the United States stands with the people of Ukraine and believes this crisis can be solved through diplomacy.
