Friday UPDATE: Eight people are confirmed dead and three people are reported missing.

Thursday UPDATE, 7:30a ET: Geraldo Rivera reported from the scene this morning on Fox and Friends, as the death toll has now risen to seven, with eight others still listed as missing. Officials believe the explosion was caused by a gas leak. Watch his report above.

UPDATE, 9:39p ET: Three people are dead, about 60 are injured, and nine people are still missing following the fatal gas explosion in Harlem. Watch Trace Gallagher's report from "The Kelly File" above.

UPDATE, 2:45p ET: From "The fire department said 24 people were treated at the scene and two suffered life-threatening injuries. The other injuries were considered minor."

UPDATE, 12:28p ET: Mayor de Blasio said a gas leak was reported to Con Edison 15 minutes before the explosion. Click here for more information from the press conference. 

UPDATE, 12:25p ET: 2 people are now confirmed dead and 18 people are injured. NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio said there will be a search for missing individuals once the fire has been extinguished. Relatives searching for loved ones can call 311 for more information. 

UPDATE, 11:30a ET: The NYPD confirms to Fox News that one person is dead and 17 are injured. 

UPDATE, 11:00a ET: FDNY says buildings 1644 and 1644 Park Ave. have been affected. People are being evacuated from nearby buildings. The NYC Department of Buildings tells Fox News that there were no recent permits issued for those two buildings and there are no violations on file. ​

WNYW spoke to a resident in the area who said he and his wife smelled gas last night. Con Edison is on the scene, but police say any cause is preliminary. Watch the witness interview here.

UPDATE, 10:43a ET: FDNY says it's now a five-alarm fire and more than 100 firefighters are reportedly on the scene.

UPDATE, 10:25a ET: WNYW reports that 1646 Park Ave. is a residential building and also houses a piano store. Part of the building may have been under construction, according to local reports.

UPDATE, 10:19a ET: Local reports say 11 people are injured in the four-alarm collapse that happened at 9:31a ET. Firefighters are working to put out a fire.

The FDNY tweeted:

A Harlem Hospital Center spokesperson told Fox News that they are treating one person at the ER. Police told the hospital that they are “expecting others.”

The FDNY says the reports came in from around Park Avenue between 114th and 116 Streets. Park Ave has been closed off in both directions around 116th Street.
