In comments made Wednesday morning in the White House Rose Garden, President Barack Obama discussed the main topics his 2014 budget proposal tackles. The president, who will send his awaited plan to Congress today, said that “the American people deserve better than what we’ve been seeing.”

“We’ve got to get smarter about our priorities as a nation,” he said, adding that that’s what his budget represents.

The commander in chief also said that budget cuts seen so far are slashes that economists say will cost the nation “hundreds of thousands of jobs during the course of this year."
