Road rage is being blamed for Tuesday's horrific accident that took place in midtown Manhattan when a taxi driver hit a messenger biker, plowed onto a busy sidewalk, and ultimately ran over a young British tourist.

The 23-year-old tourist had just bought a hot dog from a street vendor and was walking down New York City's 6th Avenue when she was hit. The crash severed one of her feet and left her other leg badly mangled.

In a scene that seems like it could only take place in the Big Apple, TV personality Dr. Mehmet Oz overheard the crash from his nearby office and ran to the scene where a plumber was already busy doing what he could to help the injured female.

"There was a dog leash and a belt," Oz later told a reporter on the scene, "Amazingly two mundane things you wouldn't think of, but they saved her life ... between the two of them, we were able to stop the bleeding, because you don't have much time."

The taxi driver reportedly had nine points on his license, and police issued him a summons because he wasn't even authorized to be driving the cab in question.
