Paralyzed Swimmer DQ'd From 2013 Paralympics for Not Being Disabled Enough?!
A paralyzed swimmer found out she can't compete in this year's Paralympics because ... she's not disabled enough?!
Victoria Arlen, 18, has been paralyzed from the waist down for seven years, and last year won a gold medal and set a world record at the 2012 games. But this time around, the International Paralympics Committee deemed her ineligible, calling her injury "not permanent" because there's a slim chance she could one day walk again.
"There's a chance everyone with a lot of rehab and different technologies, [...] there's hope," she said. "I'm always looking for hope, and I was basically penalized for having hope."
Arlen says she's presenting documentation and medical records to fight the committee's decision.
