President Bashar Assad of Syria issued a threat of repercussions for any American strike on Syria during during an interview that aired Monday morning on CBS.

In the sit-down with CBS News' Charlie Rose, Assad said the U.S. can expect "every action" if America strikes and suggested retaliation could come from either the opposition or his own government.

"You should expect everything," Assad said. Asked to elaborate, he added: "You should expect everything. Not necessarily from the government."

When asked whether chemical warfare use could be among the possible retaliatory acts, Assad inferred that the rebels would be the ones who would use them if they were used at all, adding: "It could happen."
