'Mommy's Trying to Kill Us': Pregnant Mom Drives Minivan With 3 Kids Into Ocean

Ebony Wilkerson’s sister had called 911 hours earlier saying that she escaped from an abusive marriage in South Carolina. Her sister told the operator that she had been in the hospital and was reportedly talking about demons before driving off.

After the 911 call, police reportedly pulled over Wilkerson’s minivan.

WYFF 4 reports:

[Daytona Beach] Police Chief Mike Chitwood says 31-year-old Ebony Wilkerson's sister had called police Tuesday, concerned about her sibling's mental state. Chitwood said Wednesday that when his officers later stopped Wilkerson's black Honda Odyssey, she expressed fear that her husband would be coming to Florida to harm her and her children. He says the officers reported she seemed lucid and the children appeared to be safe.

People on the Florida beach and lifeguards rushed into the ocean and pulled the three kids to safety. Wilkerson escaped through the window.

Chitwood said, “The waves were strong; the water was cold. […] If it had been minutes longer, the outcome probably would’ve been different.”

Authorities are determining whether to file charges against Wilkerson.
