Things got heated at today's House hearing on the IRS targeting scandal between the two ranking members of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

When former IRS official Lois Lerner once again invoked her Fifth Amendment right not to testify, Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) adjourned the hearing. When he got up to leave, ranking Democrat Elijah Cummings (MD) protested that he had a procedural question to ask, but Issa moved to shut off the microphones.

Cummings argued that he had a question to ask Lerner, criticizing Issa for conducting a "one-sided" and "un-American" investigation.

"I am a member of the Congress of the United States. I am tired of this," Cummings shouted.

Issa answered that the hearing had been adjourned, saying he had given Cummings time to ask a question.

"Chairman, what are you hiding?!" Cummings asked as Issa walked out of the room.

Issa discussed the exchange in a meeting with reporters afterwards. Watch the explosive confrontation above, and hear the latest from Mike Emanuel.

Check out On the Record, tonight at 7p/2a ET to hear more from Chairman Issa.
