Police say three third-graders were caught smoking pot in a California elementary school bathroom.

A student at Sonora Elementary School caught two 8-year-olds and a 9-year-old student smoking pot in one of the bathrooms and told administrators, authorities say.

The incident happened on Feb. 27. Police were called to the school, and then the students were released to their parents.

Authorities say the students were found to be in possession of a pipe and marijuana. They say the pot was obtained from multiple sources.

It’s unclear what disciplinary actions were taken. Students tell FOX40 that they haven’t seen the children at school since.

Principal Chris Boyles would not comment on the specific case. He said the school follows California’s education code, which says that students may be suspended or expelled.
