A “Special Report” panel this evening discussed ObamaCare enrollment numbers.

In September, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said ObamaCare success would look like 7 million people signing up by the end of March, and today she said the CBO came up with those numbers when the bill was signed.

Today, CMS put out a statement saying that 4 million people have now signed up for private health insurance plans through the federal and state marketplaces. The full report for February will be released in mid-March.

Releasing these numbers in the middle of the week and not even at the end of the month “tells you how cynically the administration is manipulating these numbers, which it pretends it doesn’t have,” Charles Krauthammer said. “But when it needs it, it produces a number so it can cover another story.”

“It’s an old rule – say the truth, it’s easier to memorize,” he said. “They keep changing stories on this and they can’t even remember what their last story was.”

Krauthammer said the numbers released aren’t even accurate.

“They aren’t counting the enrolled – it’s the people who put the plan in the shopping cart. And Amazon doesn’t count as a sale stuff that’s in the cart, it has to be something that actually is paid for, and they have no idea who paid and who [hasn’t] because the backend of this website isn’t working still.”
