Pastor From Snake-Handling Reality Show Dies of Venomous Snakebite
A pastor who starred in a National Geographic Channel reality show about snake-handling died over the weekend of a snakebite.
Jamie Coots was handling the venomous snake at his church in Middlesboro, Kentucky on Saturday night when the incident occurred.
Coots starred on "Snake Salvation," which featured Pentecostal preachers who handle snakes as part of their services. His son, Cody Coots, said Jamie had been bitten eight previous times and had never had such a severe reaction.
Police said Coots left the church before an ambulance arrived and refused medical treatment when paramedics got to his home. He was found dead in his home later that night.
A spokesman for National Geographic told Fox News that the network had no plans to film another season, but planned to air a special about Coots.
