How Much Attention Should the Media Give the "Hillary Papers"?
The conservative website Washington Free Beacon put the spotlight back on the Clinton-Lewinsky affair by examining the papers of Hillary Clinton’s closest friend, the late Diane Blair.
The papers quote the former first lady as calling Monica Lewinsky a “narcissistic loony toon.”
The documents remained untouched at an archive in Arkansas and include diaries, strategy memos, correspondence and more. One memo, written by Democratic strategists, stated that voters found Mrs. Clinton to be “ruthless.”
Media Buzz host Howard Kurtz wondered how much energy the media should put into excavating this story.
Amy Holmes, anchor for The Blaze TV, said, “These documents were available for four years and not a single member of the mainstream media could bother themselves… to go down to Arkansas. When you contrast that to what the media did with Sarah Palin’s emails – we had entire platoons going up to Alaska for a countdown to find out that she wanted to buy a tanning bed.”
Michelle Cottle, from The Daily Beast, called the story overblown and predictable. “A ‘narcissistic loony toon’ is a great phrase… although most of the D.C. wives I know who’ve caught their husbands making time with other women have called the other women far worse than that.”
