For the latest, Bill Hemmer spoke to Brian Green from Georgia Power. In just under three hours, the number of customers without power jumped from 3,000 to 79K statewide.

As the storm continues throughout the day, Green said ice accumulation will cause downed trees and power lines. Thursday’s forecast shows up to one inch of ice totals for parts of Georgia and the Carolinas.

“We have crews stationed throughout the state and they are responding to the hardest hit areas and going to do our best to get power on as quickly as we can,” he said.
