Why is NBC dropping the number one late night host?

TV Howl’s Adam Buckman and Mediaites’s Joe Concha joined Howard Kurtz on Media Buzz to discuss the network’s decision to drop Jay Leno for Jimmy Fallon.

Buckman said the network basically canceled its top show and that executives are likely hoping that Fallon will bring in younger viewers.

Concha said network executives often make the mistake of hiring someone younger in order to attract a younger audience. He pointed out that the most-watched show on TV is “NCIS,” which stars 62-year-old Mark Harmon, and that “The O’Reilly Factor,” with its 64-year-old host Bill, is the most watched cable news show.
