President Obama promised to have the most transparent administration in American history, but the press has become increasingly disgruntled by the lack of information flowing.

Has the Mainstream Media Turned on President Obama?

New York Times Executive Editor Jill Abramson called it the “most secretive” White House she has ever covered, adding, “and that includes […] presidents from President Reagan up on through now.”

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, a former Time magazine bureau chief, was asked by ABC News’ Jonathan Karl whether his former reporter self would be satisfied with the level of transparency.

Carney said as a reporter, he would never be satisfied with any amount of information the White House puts out.

He said the press has to be “beating” on the White House and Congress to get information.

Why Is the Obama Admin Keeping More Info Secret?

On America’s Newsroom, radio talk show host Richard Fowler said that the Obama administration is open to the American people, as evidenced by their Twitter and Instagram accounts.

Martha MacCallum interjected, “Richard, are you telling me that it doesn’t bother you at all that the executive editor of the New York Times says it’s the worst she has ever seen?”

Fowler argued again that the president is transparent because he tweets. MacCallum shot back, “He’s tweeting everything he wants to tweet. It’s a completely controlled message, Richard!”
