United States military officials confirm they have received a new "proof-of-life" video of Army Sgt. Bowe Berghdahl. He is the only American soldier in captivity after being taken prisoner in Afghanistan by the Taliban in June 2009.

It’s believed that Bergdahl is being held in Pakistan by the Haqqani network. They operate underneath the Taliban on the southeastern frontier of the Afghan-Pakistan border.

The video, which someone dropped off at a U.S. embassy in the Middle East, is the first in three years. He reportedly appears gaunt and speaks about the recent death of Nelson Mandela. The Taliban has said they would free him in exchange for the release of five prisoners from Guantanamo Bay. The U.S. policy is that it does not negotiate with terrorists.

Pentagon officials say they are continuing to work for his safe and immediate release.
