Law Professor Jonathan Turley said a breaking New York Times report that President Trump has discussed Mueller probe matters with witnesses called to speak with the special counsel is "problematic."

Turley said White House Counsel Donald McGahn should be watching and maintaining the legal "line" that Trump should not cross when it comes to matters like the investigation.

He said it may be another example of the White House's reported "lack of control and discipline."

Turley said it hurts Trump, in that it raises questions among critics that will prolong the Mueller probe and fuel further allegations against him.

"We still don't have a clear crime that is linked to the president," Turley, of George Washington University in Foggy Bottom, D.C., said.
