The panel on "The Story" said Tuesday that there are several good potential diplomats to take Nikki Haley's place after she leaves her ambassadorship at the United Nations at the end of the year.

"Federalist" editor Mollie Hemingway said she agreed with several others who have floated the name of Ambassador to Germany Ric Grenell.

Grenell faced a long delay before having his nomination to the post in Berlin voted on by the Senate, but is a staunch ally of the president.

Grenell previously served in the George W. Bush White House.

Former Bush speechwriter Marc Thiessen floated the name of former New Hampshire GOP Sen. Kelly Ayotte.

Ayotte was formerly a member of the Armed Services Committee.

He noted how she was designated the Senate "sherpa" for now-Justice Neil Gorsuch, guiding him through the confirmation process.
