The panel on Outnumbered on Tuesday reacted to the newly-revealed text messages between fired FBI official Peter Strzok and former FBI attorney Lisa Page.

The text exchanges show the duo discussing a "media leak strategy" amid the Trump-Russia probe in April of 2017.

Michigan Senate candidate John James (R) said that the new revelations are "tough to swallow" after last week's New York Times op-ed written by a senior Trump administration official.

"There is a crisis of trust in this country," he said. "When you have these leaks, it fundamentally undermines the way we do business in government. This is why there’s such a distaste among all Americans, regardless of what side of the aisle you’re on."

Citing documents from the Justice Department, Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) said that Strzok texted Page in April of 2017, "I had literally just gone to find this phone to tell you I want to talk to you about media leak strategy with DOJ before you go."

Two days later, Strzok reportedly wrote, "Well done, Page," and told her that two negative articles about Page's "namesake" -- an apparent reference to Carter Page -- would soon come out.

James added that media leaks discredit news organizations and put government service members at risk.

"The New York Times is almost becoming like TMZ with some of the headlines we have," he said.

Strzok's lawyer said Tuesday that the "media leak strategy" in question was referring to an effort to stop leaks.

Fox News contributor Lisa Boothe added that she has a tough time believing Strzok's lawyer, given that the former FBI agent and [Lisa] Page were involved in a text exchange saying that they both will "stop" Trump from being elected in 2016.

"I'm sorry if I'm crazy to think that perhaps there was some sort of effort by Peter Strzok and Lisa Page to do precisely what they said they were going to do."
