'The Fringe Has Become the Mainstream': Malkin Blasts Andrew Cuomo for Calling ICE 'Thugs'
'ICE agents are patriots,' Malkin says.
Author and commentator Michelle Malkin blasted New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo for declaring ICE to be "a bunch of thugs" and pledging to continue seeking various lawsuits against the Trump administration.
"New York State is the state that is suing Donald Trump for ripping babies from the arms of their mothers. New York State is the state that says we will not cooperate with ICE -- they're a bunch of thugs," Cuomo (D) said in his debate against primary opponent and far-left actress Cynthia Nixon.
Malkin said Cuomo, who in his first gubernatorial race ran as a moderate Democrat in 2010, shows that "the fringe has become the mainstream of the Democratic Party, on the issue of supporting immigration and customs agents."
Cuomo, 60, has continued to move politically to the left, seeking to outflank Nixon. The winner of September's primary faces Republican Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro.
Recently, Molinaro ripped Cuomo for saying earlier this month that America "was never that great" and most recently called the governor "a classless buffoon" for targeting his wife in a political ad.
Malkin said ICE agents are "patriots" and that it is "astonishing" to see Cuomo make "blanket" statements about them.
Cuomo previously caused a political stir by claiming to be an immigrant and daring President Donald Trump to "deport" him. Cuomo was born in Queens and is the grandson of Italian immigrants.
He also said in an Albany, N.Y. public radio interview that "extreme conservatives" -- who he characterized as "right-to-life, pro-assault weapon [and] anti-gay" -- "have no place in the State of New York."
