Tomi Lahren said the murder of Iowa college student Mollie Tibbetts should be a wake-up call on illegal immigration.

Cristhian Rivera, a 24-year-old illegal immigrant from Mexico, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of the 20-year-old Tibbetts, who was reported missing more than a month ago.

On "Fox & Friends" on Wednesday, Lahren said Americans are starting to see that border control and immigration enforcement affect the entire country, not just border states.

"If this can happen where it happened -- in the heartland of this country -- it can happen anywhere," Lahren said.

"We have to do something to fix this immigration problem, because illegal immigration kills Americans. Enough is enough."

She said she hopes that liberal lawmakers who advocate for sanctuary cities and other policies that make it more difficult to enforce federal immigration law understand that they, in some part, have blood on their hands every time an American is killed by an illegal immigrant.

"The fact that our law enforcement and our immigration officials are hampered the way that they are in this country is an outrage," Lahren said. "And it's so sad that we have to have a tragedy like this to remind us and to bring it up in the conversation, but maybe it's what we need to start taking these things seriously."

"It's an absolute outrage."
