With November's midterm elections looming, some Democrats are distancing themselves from House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

In an interview on CNN's "New Day" on Thursday, Michigan congressional candidate Rashida Tlaib said she would be unlikely to vote for Nancy Pelosi for speaker if Democrats retake the House.

Multiple other Democratic congressional candidates and incumbents have made similar statements about not supporting Pelosi, who has been a lightning rod for criticism from President Donald Trump and Republicans.

On "America's Newsroom," former Utah congressman and Fox News contributor Jason Chaffetz said it's understandable why some Democrats are distancing themselves from Pelosi, calling her a political liability.

He said Pelosi probably should have exited the political stage when former President Obama left office, but Democrats had all assumed that Hillary Clinton would be president.

"Now she is the number one albatross around the Democrats' necks," Chaffetz said, adding the only reason Pelosi is still a leader in her party is because she has been successful at fundraising.

"Other than that, she doesn't bring anything positive to the Democratic ticket," he said.

As for speculation about a "blue wave" in the midterm elections, Chaffetz acknowledged that in a non-presidential election it is common for the party that holds the White House to lose some congressional seats.

He noted, however, that Trump-backed candidates did very well in Tuesday's primaries and special elections.

"There is no evidence to suggest that there's some big tsunami that's going to flow the Democrats' way," Chaffetz said.
