Blumenthal: Trump Acting as 'Puppet' for Outside Groups, Will Nominate 'Fringe Ideologue' to SCOTUS
Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) said Sunday President Trump is acting like a "puppet" for outside groups and claimed Trump is set to nominate a "fringe ideologue" to the Supreme Court.
"I’ve never seen a president of the United States in effect make himself a puppet of outside groups and choose from a group of right wing fringe ideologues that are prepared on this list," said Blumenthal on ABC's "This Week," accusing Trump of "outsourc[ing]" his choice to the Federalist Society and the Heritage Foundation.

He claimed Trump is looking to pick a judge who will "automatically overturn Roe v. Wade," but said a "vast majority" of Americans will side with Democrats if Trump makes such a pick.
Attorney Leonard Leo of the Federalist Society, who is advising Trump on the process, said Blumenthal's remarks were "insulting and offensive."
"This president has been more involved and more transparent than any other president in modern history," he said on "America's Newsroom" Monday, noting that Trump was the first president to release a list of potential nominees.
The four finalists are said to be federal appeals court judges Brett Kavanaugh, Raymond Kethledge, Amy Coney Barrett and Thomas Hardiman.
Trump will make the announcement at 9:00pm ET tonight at Fox News Channel.
Responding on "Outnumbered," Lisa Boothe said Blumenthal represents a blue state and will be fiercely opposed to whomever Trump chooses.
She said red state Democrats like Sens. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.), Joe Manchin (D-W. Va.) and Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) - who all voted for Neil Gorsuch - are the ones facing political pressure heading into the midterms.
