An Army specialist returned home to North Carolina after being deployed in Syria for nine months to surprise his girlfriend in more ways than one.

Spc. Camryn Henley surprised his girlfriend, Maddison Olinger, at a Greensboro Grasshoppers minor league baseball game, but it would turn out to be a night the couple wouldn't forget.

Henley and Olinger have known each since high school.

"I just thought I was going to a regular baseball game," Olinger said on "Fox & Friends First."

Olinger, ever-reluctant, said she initially had to be forced to head onto the field by Henley's mother.

After he was introduced over the stadium's loudspeaker, Henley stepped onto the field, dropped down to one knee and proposed.

Henley said he grew up playing sports and always enjoyed the comradery with his team, something that he said drew him to the military.

"Honestly, it’s just something that I always wanted to do,” he said.

Henley said he and Olinger are hoping to wed next December.
