Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) was highly critical of the amount of tax money spent on Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation.

According to a new Justice Department spending report released last week, taxpayers have spent nearly $17 million on the probe since Mueller took over last year.

Gohmert said on "Fox & Friends" that he'd like some transparency on where Americans' money is going.

"The least we can do is start looking at all the ways he has absolutely blown taxpayer dollars," he said.

The spending report said that the nearly $7 million expenses between May and September of 2017 would “have incurred for the investigations irrespective of the existence” of Mueller’s probe.

The report also said that about $10 million was spent between October 2017 and March 2018.

"[Mueller] has wasted money right and left," Gohmert said.

According to The Washington Times, the House approved a proposal introduced by Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) that called for regular audits of the Russia investigation.
