Armed Bystanders Shoot, Kill Gunman Who Opened Fire at Oklahoma City Restaurant
A man opened fire Thursday in an Oklahoma restaurant, leaving at least three people injured, before he was fatally shot by a pair of armed citizens, police said.
The gunfire unfolded at about 6:30 p.m. local time at Louie's on the Lake in Oklahoma City, Fox 25 News reported.
Witnesses described a scene of "complete chaos" when the shooting started, with patrons "trampling" each other to escape the restaurant.
William La Jeunesse reported that 28-year-old Alexander Tilghman walked into the establishment and opened fire on a child's birthday party.
As Tilghman was leaving and before police arrived, two men confronted him in the parking lot. When he refused to drop his weapon, they shot him dead, La Jeunesse reported.
The two Good Samaritans are being credited with saving lives.
"We just felt so fortunate that there was someone there who was able to stop it before more people were hurt or killed," witness Debbie Doggett said.
La Jeunesse reported that police say it's unlikely the district attorney will prosecute the two men for endangerment or discharging their weapons in public.
The victims, a woman and two children, are in good condition and are expected to survive.
