'Spend a Day at Walter Reed': 'The Five' Blasts CA Teacher Who Called Military 'Lowest of the Low'

CA Teacher Caught on Tape: US Military Members 'The Lowest of the Low'

A high school student who had received death threats for recording his teacher's anti-military rant said Thursday that he's happy the school board fired the teacher, and that "nobody deserves to be hurt."

Victor Quinonez, who aspires to join the U.S. Marine Corps, used his cellphone to capture his teacher, Gregory Salcido, slamming service members as the "the lowest of our low."

Salcido, 49, had previously been put on administrative leave following his comments, but the El Rancho Unified School District Board of Education voted unanimously Tuesday to terminate his role.

Salcido was removed from his assignments as a city councilman after the audio went viral, and even triggered a response from the Pentagon.

“We've got a bunch of dumbs---s over there," Salcido had said of military personnel. "Think about the people who you know who are over there. Your freaking stupid Uncle Louie or whatever. They’re dumbs‑‑‑s. They’re not like high-level thinkers, they’re not academic people, they’re not intellectual people. They’re the lowest of our low."

Quinonez's attorney, Trevor McCardle, said on "Fox and Friends" that El Rancho High School officials produced a 200-plus page report following an investigation. It found that Salcido had been engaging in similar conduct for a number of years.

"In Mr. Quinonez's case, he went after him because of his connection [to] the military. But there was also some evidence indicating that he went after students based on their religion, gender and potentially even race and national origin," McCardle said.

Quinonez had been wearing a Marines Corps sweatshirt in class the day the rant took place.

Board of Education President Aurora Villon said of Salcido's remarks in a statement, "His comments do not reflect what we stand for, who we are. The classroom should never be a place where students feel that they are picked at, bullied, intimidated."
