"Thank you for lunch today @GeorgeHWBush, for your friendship, and service to our country’s govt., military, also it’s intelligence community," Paisley wrote.
He also complimented Bush's choice of shamrock socks on the day the world celebrates the patron saint of Ireland.
Bush is known to wear such interesting footwear depending on the occasion, something occasionally mentioned by his White House successor, Bill Clinton.
The "Country Nation" singer has been friends with the 93-year-old for some time, and has performed for several presidents.
In 2017, the West Virginia native recalled how he remembered being in high school during Bush's presidency and later befriending the man who was once leader of the free world.
"It's one of those things you never forget," he told WKXY.
