Bongino: For Democrats, Illegal Immigration Debate Is 'Only About Votes'
On "Fox & Friends" Saturday morning, Dan Bongino weighed in on the showdown between the Trump administration and California over the state's sanctuary policies.
The Justice Department last week filed a lawsuit against California, claiming three recently passed state laws are deliberately interfering with federal immigration policies.
"To Democrats, immigration is not about immigrants," Bongino said. "It is about about votes. It has only been about votes. It's been about votes because they need to replace the working class voters they're losing by talking about tax cuts as 'crumbs' with people coming into the country illegally."
As for Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf's (D) decision to warn her community of impending ICE raids, Bongino said it's a "disgrace."
"Do we live in a constitutional republic anymore? Do laws even matter to Democrats? It's pretty disgusting," he said, wondering what Schaaf will say to her community if and when a criminal illegal immigrant who avoided deportation goes on to commit another crime.
Host Rachel Campos-Duffy pointed out that President Trump won the 2016 election in part due to his tough rhetoric on illegal immigration, so it's odd that Democrats would double down on sanctuary policies.
"They don't have anything else!" Bongino said. "What are they going to run on? 'We're going to hike your taxes, we're going to take your health care and send your kids to a crap school?'"
