George Washington University Law Professor Jonathan Turley reacted to a recent call for a second special counsel to oversee Robert Mueller's probe into President Trump.
President Trump's lawyer Jay Sekulow said a second counsel is needed to rectify the "multiple problems" with the probe, which he said included conflicts of interest.
Turley said there needs to be a serious investigation into the actions of Mueller's team, but said that a second special counsel is not the way to go.
"This is something Congress can and should investigate," he said, calling the possible politicization of the probe a "core concern."
He said Congress should take advantage of its authority to hold officials in contempt in the face of foot-dragging by authorities tasked with sending documents to the committees.
Later on Tuesday night, Fox News obtained hundreds of text messages between two FBI officials - Lisa Page and Peter Strzok - some of which were derogatory toward President Trump.
In one message in Aug. 2016, Page sent along a New York Times article about Muslim lawyer Khizr Khan, who feuded with Trump after speaking at the Democratic National Convention.
"Jesus. You should read this. And Trump should go f himself," Page wrote in a message attached to the article.
“God that’s a great article," Strzok answered. "Thanks for sharing. And F TRUMP."
