Laura Ingraham questioned why some people on social media felt the need to "harp on the racial identity" of Prince Harry's new fiancee, Meghan Markle.

Harry, the younger brother of Prince William, recently became engaged to American actress Meghan Markle, whose mother is black.

Harry and his father Prince Charles reacted in delight to Markle's decision to accept the engagement.

Ingraham said that, soon after, Twitter became abuzz with people pointing to the fact that the future Duchess is half African-American.

"Suddenly, tweets and Facebook posts were harping on their racial identity," she said.

"Must we transfer our racial hangups onto this young happy couple?"
